Florentine Trained Artist in Traditional Oil Painting Portraiture
Traditional oil painting portraiture captures more than a likeness or a moment in time; it captures the beauty of the human spirit- that is a person’s character. As seen in his artwork, Kevin’s oil paintings draw on the classical methods he acquired in Florence, and are applied in a contemporary context to the world around him. Simply because he is interested in the sublime that is to be found in the mundane, his paintings speak to us in common terms, the poetry of everyday life. Above all, Kevin delights in people, in their character and their story, and that delight comes out in his portraits in a very special way. Furthermore, many clients feel as if the person painted in the portrait is present in the room with them.
“There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.” – C.S. Lewis

Portrait of Dr. Iain McGilchrist

Below is a mini video series of Kevin painting a traditional oil painting portrait of the best selling author and neuroscientist, Dr. Iain McGilchrist, on the Isle of Sky, over the course of a week.
Dr. Iain McGilchrist Portrait Day 1 Highlight

“Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened.” The failings of human consciousness, deprived of its divine dimension, have been a determining factor in all the major crimes of this century. – Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s 1983 Templeton Address
“Until we remember God, and start to take awareness of God and what that means for our lives, we will not get better, no matter what we do.” – Dr. Iain McGilchrist
Dr. Iain McGilchrist Portrait Day 5 Highlight

“I have very strong views on AI, I frankly believe it’s evil. It’s being promoted in order to control people. To make people more addicted, more dependent, so they are easier to control, and this is frankly evil. It’s destructive to humanity. It’s destructive to our freedom and dignity. The pretense that having an enormous amount of information at your fingertips, which is entirely stolen from us, is entirely parasitic, and that that equals intelligence, but it doesn’t equal any type of intelligence at all.”
– Dr. Iain McGilchrist
Traditional Oil Painting Portraiture: The McEvoy Portrait of John Monteleone Working in His Studio was recently on exhibit at Long Island Museum's Musical Masterworks: John Monteleone's Guitars and other Instruments.

Wow! Amazing paintings, Kevin! Your sister, Colleen, introduced your art works to me. I’m so excited to see such master works here in Long Island!
Thanks so much, Julie! I somehow did not see this comment earlier, I very much appreciate you writing. Feel free to stop by my studio anytime that you would like, I always enjoy showing visitors around. It’s a sprawling 5,000 square feet of natural light painting studios, galleries, and a rare art book library with over 10,000 fine art books, and even a secret door, ha. Thanks again Julie, talk to you.
Hi Kevin; my name is Laura Endres and I am the program director for the Smithtown Rotary Club. I was hoping you would be able to give a presentation at our club? Right now we have available August 7th as the earliest date and many others through December. Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you and your work is amazing!
Hi Laura, I apologize- I somehow did not receive your message in the past, and am just now seeing it. (This message was embedded within my website, but I did not see it where it usually lands, in my email inbox.) I am very honored by your request, and of course, I would be very happy to give a presentation at the Smithtown Rotary- would you like for me to discuss my art career in general, and perhaps the beginning of the Atelier at Flowerfield? It’s exciting to relay the journey that I’ve had- from a boy sketching and wandering in the woods of Blydenburgh Park, to a young man studying classical drawing and painting in Italy, to professional artist and director working here on Long Island. Just let me know, and I’d be very happy to share! Again, very honored by your request, and I look forward to talking. Feel free to email me at kevinwilliammcevoy@gmail.com – Sincerely, Kevin McEvoy
