Open Studio

McEvoy Studio of Fine Art

Along the The Great South Bay of Islip, NY

Open Studio Now Available

We are now offering Open Studio.  A chance for enrolled students to work on their class projects on the weekends. Kevin feels it is very important to have time working without instruction:
“I’ve identified a real need, among art students on Long Island, for students to simply have time at the easel, without instruction. And so, this will be a space in which students can put in many hours at the easel, just as I myself experienced at the Cecil Studios in Florence.”

How it Works:

As you see in the image below, we have divided the studio into four working areas or easels.  Students have the opportunity to purchase an easel to work at, at a specific time for the  entire semester (12 weeks).  For example, Suzi wants to work on her still life on Saturday mornings, so she purchases Easel 1 on Saturday mornings 9-12pm for the semester for $180. That breaks down to $15/3 hour work session.  An additional half hour is allotted before and after each work session for set up and break down.  Students must commit to their time slot for the entire semester.  Even if there is availability in the room, students will not be given the opportunity to purchase single work sessions.  Not only for accounting purposes, it is necessary to have a predictable and consistent schedule for everyone to work together.

If you want to coordinate with a friend to share a portrait model for instance, that is a fine idea.  It would be the students responsibility to coordinate having two easels together in the same time slot, and to schedule the model.
