Here is the first moments of a painting I began yesterday evening. The painting is only about one and a half hours in. Lately, in figure painting, I’ve been enjoying the effect of the background being lighter than the foreground. For this painting, several weeks beforehand I tinted the canvas pretty dark. And so, yesterday I only painted with white and yellow ochre. I was concerned with the light pattern, the dark of the canvas functioning as my shadow.
